CropNem

A Natural Pesticide of Beneficial Nematotes

CropNem is a natural pesticide based on beneficial Nematodes. You can use these CropNem to control Grubs, Fungus gnats, Fleas and over 200 other soil developing pests!

Information

Beneficial Nematodes are naturally occurring, microscopic organisms (non-segmented round worms) found in soils throughout the world. They parasitize and kill insect pests in their larval or pupal stage of development preventing egg laying and limiting crop damage. After application, nematodes locate pests and enter through body openings or directly through the body wall. Once inside, the nematodes produce bacteria that is injected into the pest’s blood. This bacteria kills the host pest within 24-48 hours while the nematodes continue to reproduce within it.
As the food resources within their host become scarce, the nematodes emerge and begin searching for a new host. While each species attacks a wide variety of pests, they are species specific and safe to use around beneficial insects, mammals or aquatic life.

They mainly parasitize insect pests that have soil dwelling larval or pupal stages; however, they also have been known to parasitize above ground stages of certain pests. Their wide range of prey makes them exceptional for general pest control in chemical-free growing environments.

IPM, or Integrated Pest Management

IPM is an approach that utilizes multiple pest control techniques for maximum effectiveness. Typically IPM programs utilize bio controls, physical controls and chemical controls to effectively control the pest population in the most efficient way possible, while minimizing risks to human health and the environment, including non-target organisms.
Below are 5 reasons that beneficial nematodes, such as those in CropNem nematode products, fit well into Integrated Pest Management programs:

$

Beneficial nematodes pose no threat to human health and are completely safe.

There are no safety concerns with beneficial nematodes, and no need to avoid the treatment area for any period of time.

$

Beneficial nematodes are a targeted control, and do not harm non target organisms.

This is important since IPM programs typically utilize a number of other bio controls to kill pest insects. Beneficial nematodes will not harm ladybugs, praying mantises, earthworms, parasitic wasps or other beneficials.

$

Beneficial nematodes are easy to apply and do not require specialized equipment.

Growers can typically utilize the same equipment (sprayers, etc…) for beneficial nematode application as they do for other controls, including chemical controls. There is no specialized equipment or training needed for beneficial nematode application. Additionally, there is no pesticide license requirement for beneficial nematodes.

$

Beneficial nematodes are compatible with most insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers and other commonly used chemical controls.

Beneficial nematodes can tolerate other common pesticides, meaning they fit easily into IPM programs that utilize such controls. You do not need to wait to apply chemicals in order to protect beneficial nematodes.

$

Insect pests cannot develop resistance to beneficial nematodes.

This is an advantage beneficial nematodes have over chemical controls. While pests can develop resistance to chemical controls, they cannot develop a resistance to beneficial nematodes. Using beneficial nematodes as part of an IPM program allows growers to use chemical controls less often, reducing the likelihood that pests will develop a resistance to chemical pesticides.

N

CropNem Nematodes are an all-natural organic form of pest control.

Beneficial nematodes are naturally occurring predators of a wide variety of pest insects. CropNem is a completely all natural and organic solution for combating many common pest insects.
N

CropNem is safe for people, animals and plants.

Though beneficial nematodes actively hunt down and kill pest insects, they are non-toxic and completely safe for people, pets and plants. CropNem is a great, safe alternative to harsh chemical pesticides and are safe for use around people, animals and around your home.
N

Pest Insects do not build a resistance to CropNem.

Pest insects can build up a resistance to conventional chemical pesticides, meaning eventually stronger and harsher treatments are needed. This is not a risk with CropNem beneficial nematodes; insects do not build up a resistance to these natural pest predators.
N

CropNem is a targeted control.

The nematodes in CropNem’s products target many common insect pests, but are completely harmless to many beneficials like ladybugs, praying mantises, earthworms and bees. You can safely use beneficial nematodes without fear of harming other non-target organisms unlike chemical pesticides.
N

CropNem nematodes last longer than traditional chemical pesticides.

Beneficial nematodes live in the soil and will generally live at levels high enough to control pest insect populations for around 18 months after application depending on conditions. This means that you can go much longer between treatments as compared to chemical pesticide alternatives.
